Welcome to Well Worn Theatre

Published 3 July, 2009 by Kyla

Hello folks, how do you like our new website?! We here at Well Worn are giddy with excitement about it. It looks fabulous, feels fabulous and suits us down to the ground. I personally have been waiting for this moment for yonks and yonks and am truly delighted with the result. This means that Well Worn Theatre Company has finally joined the ranks of the technologically adept and as such can enjoy the benefits of the World Wide Web in style. Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Kyla Davis, I live in Jozi and I am the Artistic Director of Well Worn Theatre Company, a little company with a big heart and a strong mind. Our main thing is environmental education but we plan to do lots more as well.

We are just starting out, beginning with the basics, but we’re in no rush. Part of our ethos is that we love the journey we’re on. So much nowadays is geared towards the end result, the goal, the final achievement and, while we think this is also important, it’s not as important as the process. The journey is where all the learning happens. The growing, the changing, the evolving. That’s the best part.

But excuse me, I get ahead of myself. You’ll have to forgive me, I’m a terrible hippy sometimes. An idealistic, sandal-wearing, lentil-eating, placard-waving, tree-hugger who can save-the-whales with the best of ‘em. But that is only one tiny part of me. The rest is pure pragmatism. Ready to get down to the nitty gritty and face facts. Ready to confront the issues that threaten to infringe on our basic rights: our right to a healthy planet and our right to live freely and fairly on it.

You’ll hear me talk about this stuff often. Sometimes lightly, sometimes with a heavy heart but always, always with hope and a plan up my sleeve. I and the people behind Well Worn are no moaners. We intend to get active, to get involved, to get results. We will not sit and do nothing just because we can’t do everything.

So yes, we’ve got big dreams. And this is just the beginning of them so now you know why we are so very excitable. Not to sound too naff about it, but I hope you’ll join us on this journey. I hope you’ll visit our site often and read what we have to say. We promise we will provoke debate. We promise we will give you helpful information and amazing resources. We promise we will write in our blog and do our internet homework. We promise we will be entertaining and informative and insightful. We promise to stoke your passion. We promise we will make you an activist before the year is out. And we promise, really, not to take ourselves too seriously.

Have a look at our site and please tell us what you think. We worked so very hard….

In solidarity,
